Dethroned

The Wild Earth Oceania Film Festival 2026 Closing Gala is “Dethroned”, a 2024 nature documentary following world renowned photojournalist Aaron Gekoski across the globe to investigate humanity’s fracturing relationship with big cats. It explores how these creatures, once worshiped and revered as symbols of power, are now exploited, commodified, and traded by human societies. As one of the most preeminent photojournalists in the world today, featured in over 100 short and long form documentaries, this one is not to be missed. Aaron was awarded the 2024 Environmental Photographer of the Year by Prince Albert II of Monaco and his images have appeared in dozens of international publications and books.

Aaron’s work contributes significantly to the cessation of illegal and unregulated global wildlife trade through exposure and thought provoking & intentional objective photojournalism. The Closing Gala includes networking and drinks from 5PM and an after party at this historic Piccadilly Cinema to celebrate the success of WEOFF 2026 and our National impact and transition to an annual festival with Wallis Entertainment as part of Adelaide's Annual Event calendar.
